- Upon starting a new game from the main menu, players can import a character save from Mass Effect 1
- The Player chooses which character to bring in. Bringing in more than one character is possible, this will create a second or additional profile(s), just like in Mass Effect 1.
- For Xbox 360 players need to be signed into your profile that you used to play through Mass Effect 1.
- On PC players will select the .MassEffectSave files to import.
- The profile and save data must be present on the hard drive and not an MU.
- There is a limit of 11 end-of-game saves that can be imported into ME2. This means that if the player was to complete ME1 12 times, regardless of the number of unique playthroughs used, the 12th save will not be available for import, but saves 1 through 11 will be available.

‘PlayStation 4′ May Not Include Cell Processor
December 29th, 2009Sony’s next gaming console may not include the much-heralded Cell architecture.
A report from Japanese outlet Impress Watch states Sony is considering several options for the design of the ‘PlayStation 4,’ including scrapping the Cell design entirely and moving towards a traditional PC multi-core processor.
Tech writer Hiroshige Goto says Sony is also looking at a new, modified version of the Cell processor, and Intel’s Larrabee chipset as possible candidates. He also says that it seems unlikely we’ll see a release of the ‘PS4′ until 2012 at the earliest, as it usually takes two years for a console to go from concept into full production.
While the PlayStation 3’s Cell processor has its advantages over the competition, many third-party developers still seem to be having difficulty programming for it, as recently seen with SEGA’s Bayonetta port. Whatever they choose to do, though, it’s refreshing to see Sony focusing on being more developer-friendly for the future.

Mass Effect 2 Importing Requires Hard Drive
December 29th, 2009Mass Effect fans will soon be able to import character and story save data from the first title into the upcoming sequel. BioWare has outlined the process, with community man Chris Priestly answering questions and concerns of fans on the official forums recently.
Here’s what you should know before you make the jump:
Priestly also says starting a New Game + after completing it will be able to reuse the same import data for a second playthrough. Completing Mass Effect 1 with a high level character and transferring it to Mass Effect 2 will receive greater bonuses, such as a monetary boost, or “additional research resources for use at the Normandy’s Tech Lab.”
Additionally, transferring a save where the player finished as either a Renegade or a Paragon, “part” of your character’s alignment will carry over as well.

Modern Warfare 2 Most Pirated Title of 2009
December 29th, 2009According to TorrentFreak, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been downloaded illegally nearly 4,100,000 times for PC in 2009, topping the list after only releasing just two months ago.
Provided these numbers are indeed accurate, Activision has potentially lost more than $245 million in sales on the PC version alone.
The Sims 3, Prototype, Need for Speed Shift, and Street Fighter IV help round off the top five for the year, all of which appeared on the PC platform.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the highest downloaded Wii title with 1,150,000 downloads.
The report notes the total download figures for this year double that of last year’s numbers, and that PC remains to be the target for torrent downloads, with more than three times that of the Wii and Xbox 360.

Billionaire buys up 11% of Take-Two
December 23rd, 2009Carl Icahn increases stake in Grand Theft Auto publisher; news of his interest boosts share price more than 11%, sparks speculation of shareholder revolt.
When a group of angry shareholders led by Strauss Zelnick overthrew the Take-Two board of directors and installed a new executive team with Zelnick as chairman in March 2007, the publisher’s stock was trading for more than $21. Yesterday, Take-Two stock closed at $8.25, and some analysts suspect Zelnick might himself be the target of an investor uprising.
Yesterday, billionaire investor Carl Icahn revealed through SEC filings that his companies had acquired more than 11 percent of Take-Two shares in a series of purchases over the last two weeks. After Take-Two preannounced disappointing fourth quarter results after the close of trading on Thursday, December 3, the publisher’s stock shed more than 30 percent of its value overnight. Starting the following Monday, Icahn and his partners made dozens of stock purchases (including call options) to obtain their current stake in Take-Two.
Some industry watchers have taken this as a sign that Icahn intends to force a sale or management overhaul of the company. Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter today released a note to investors saying, “We believe that Mr. Icahn intends to force the company to consider a sale.” That was a sentiment ThinkEquity analyst Atul Bagga echoed to Reuters. However, Pachter noted that Zelnick and Icahn have a history that may come into play whatever the scenario.
“When Mr. Icahn became Blockbuster’s biggest shareholder in 2004, he sought three board seats at that company and nominated himself and Mr. Zelnick for two of them,” Pachter said. “Both remain on the Blockbuster board, and we are confident that they know each other well. We think that Mr. Icahn’s significant stake in Take-Two will allow him access to Mr. Zelnick, and we expect to see increased interest in the stock as management responds to Mr. Icahn’s suggestions about how to unlock value.”
Icahn’s SEC filing made no mention of further plans to increase his stake in Take-Two, but it did note he might “seek to have conversations with” representatives of the company.
The billionaire’s reputation as an activist shareholder is so strong that his very involvement in a stock can boost its value. Icahn first took interest in Take-Two in August of 2006, with the acquisition of just over 1 percent of the company’s stock for about $10.82 per share. After the news got out, Take-Two shares ended the next day’s trading at $11.56.
Icahn’s latest round of Take-Two share purchases seems to be having a similar effect. As of press time, the game company’s shares are trading up more than 11 percent to $9.18.

Wii sells 9M in Japan, PS3 hits 4M mark
December 23rd, 2009PlayStation 3 and Wii sales have by and large been neck-and-neck for the past few months in Japan, save for when the launch of a big-name title such as New Super Mario Bros. disrupts the balance. Still, Nintendo’s console holds a sizable sales lead over its more powerful–and pricier–rival, a fact that was evidenced in glaring detail this week by Famitsu publisher and stat-tracking firm Enterbrain.
According to Japanese news site Andria Sang, Enterbrain announced today that both the Wii and PS3 had achieved significant sales milestones during the week ending December 13. The stat-tracking firm reports that the Wii topped the 9-million-unit mark during the period, having now sold 9,048,012 consoles since its December 2006 launch. Nintendo said two months ago that the console had sold more than 56 million units worldwide through September.
As for Sony’s PS3, the console surpassed the 4-million-unit mark in Japan during the same week, having launched just a few weeks before the Wii in November 2006. Through December 13, the console has sold 4,020,563 units in Japan, and the PS3’s global sales figures through September stand at 27 million.
Enterbrain also provided a sales update on New Super Mario Bros. Wii, saying that the game has sold 1,401,558 through December 13 in Japan. Last week, the stat-tracking firm revealed that Nintendo’s latest platformer had sold 936,734 from December 3-6–the game’s first tracked week of availability–and was the best opening performance for a Wii title in Japan since the console launched in the region. The latest figure indicates that New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold nearly 465,000 units during its second week of availability in Japan.

Crackdown 2 due first half of 2010
December 23rd, 2009It was already clear that the early part of 2010 will have no shortage of big-name releases, and Xbox 360 director of product management Aaron Greenberg just dropped another long-awaited game on the ever-growing pile. In an appearance on Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb’s Major Nelson podcast, Greenberg included Crackdown 2 on a list of Xbox 360 exclusives due out by July.
“Starting in January, we have a AAA exclusive title pretty much every month for the first half of the year,” Greenberg said. “You got Mass Effect 2, you got Splinter Cell, you got Alan Wake, you got Crackdown 2.”
Previously, Crackdown 2 had only been tagged with a vague 2010 release window. Ruffian Games is creating the open-world sequel, taking over for original developer Realtime Worlds. The team at Ruffian is taking one of the original game’s biggest strengths–online cooperative play throughout the campaign–and expanding it to support four players. Crackdown 2 will also feature competitive multiplayer modes for up to 16 gamers.
